Youth Mental Health & Addictions Education

10-28-2024 11:53 AM - 12-31-2024 12:00 AM

Manitobans caring for youth or children experiencing challenges with mental health and addictions, continue to have a valuable on-line resource to support their efforts.

The Youth Mental Health and Addictions Education Series was developed to provide individuals with the tools to increase their foundational knowledge on a wide range of common topics related to these areas.

Developed by inter-professional experts, (Psychiatrists, Psychologists, Occupational Therapists, Psychiatric Nurses, and Social Workers) as well as Elders and Knowledge Keepers, the Education Series is comprised of 10 modules that promote awareness of culturally responsive supports and resources while offering tools and techniques that embed addictions care within the mental health framework.

Who is this Education Series For?

This free education series is encouraged for non-mental health specialists who work with children or youth facing mental health and addictions challenges. This includes those not providing primary mental health or addictions treatment such as health care providers, social workers, group home workers, teachers, parents and foster parents who support children and youth across the province, including in First Nations Communities.

A Roadmap for Navigating Your Learning Path

Each education module is focused on a common mental health/addiction issue and associated interventions. Individuals can choose any module, in any order and work through them at your own pace.

A certificate of completion will be provided for each of the 10 modules individuals complete.

We have seen a very positive response to the series since its launch in 2023 and encourage organizations and individuals to share the modules with staff and/or within their professional networks and anyone you feel would benefit from this information. Additionally, a promotional poster is attached. Feel free to print the poster and post in common areas, break rooms and on bulletin boards.
