Professional Liability Protection and legal services

The CNPS is a not-for-profit society that offers legal advice, risk-management services, legal assistance, and professional liability protection related to nursing practice in Canada to more than 140,000 eligible nurses. As the CNPS member organization for Manitoba, ARNM can also access the legal resources of the CNPS to advocate for you!

 

CNPS beneficiaries are generally eligible for a wide range of services, including:

Legal Advice

  • Information about professional obligations and liability issues
  • Confidential access to legal advisors - you cab speak to a CNPS lawyer experienced in health law at any time, at no additional cost, should you have a question arising from your nursing practice
  • Pre-contractual review of professional service agreements

Assistance with legal proceedings, including*:

  • Claims and civil proceedings
  • Criminal investigations and prosecutions 
  • Statutory offences 
  • Witness appearances 

*Requests for assistance are considered by the CNPS on a case-by-case basis, taking account of your specific needs.

Educational resources

Access to educational resources, including educational webinars with live Q&A that discuss the legal considerations that can arise in various areas of your nursing practice.

 

CNPS' Optional Supplementary Protection Program

As a CNPS beneficiary who is currently eligible for CNPS Professional Liability Protection and Core Services, you have the option to apply for the Supplementary Protection program, which expands the circumstances in which you can seek assistance from the CNPS to assist with complaints made to a nursing regulator. You can apply now to this program when renewing your CNPS PLP and Core Services via the ARNM membership area.
