Nursing Now: The International Year of the Nurse and the Midwife

The World Health Organization has declared 2020 the International Year of the Nurse and the Midwife, which marks the 200th anniversary of Florence Nightingale's birth and the culmination of the Nursing Now campaign. Nursing Now is an international campaign that aim to improve health globally by raising the status and profile of nursing and midwifery.

Nurses are at the heart of most health teams, playing a crucial role in health promotion, disease prevention and treatment. As the health professionals closest to the community, we have a particular role in developing new models of community-based care and supporting local efforts to promote health and prevent disease.

Throughout 2020, your Association and other nursing and healthcare organizations, including the Midwives Association of Manitoba, will be working together to raise the profile, showcase the positive health impacts, and honour and celebrate our nurses and midwives throughout the province. Watch for #Nurses2020 on our website, social media and eNews to keep up with our Year of the Nurse and Midwife activities.
