Member spotlight: Jaime Burgoyne

Brandon-based nurse Jaime Burgoyne is currently in Nhamatanda, Mozambique to assist with the Red Cross response to Cyclone Idai. As a labour and delivery nurse, Jaime is providing support and mentorship to staff in the maternity ward at Nhamatanda District Hospital. “It’s about reinforcing existing healthcare principles – such as hand washing and the initial newborn resuscitation – to improve outcomes for mothers and babies,” says Jaime. With her four-week mission just over halfway done, Jaime is grateful to be able to support the local nurses and midwives, with the hope of creating long-term change within the maternity ward.
