Emily Hyde, University of Manitoba
I became a nurse and continue to love the profession because of the many ways nurses positively impact healthcare and the lives of those we serve. The role of the nurse includes bedside care but also extends to providing education to new nurses, to providing ongoing education to experienced nurses, to leading programs and health regions, to research, and beyond. This diversity reflects the diversity of people who enter the profession of nursing; there truly is a role for everyone.
I work as a clinical nurse educator and also at the bedside in critical care and I am most proud to be able to reflect on my work and know that I have positively impacted the health of Manitobans either from a level of program of care or the life of a single patient.
My studies in the Master of Nursing program at the University of Manitoba focus on cardiac issues, which are the third leading cause of hospitalization in Canada. I hope to improve quality of life of Manitobans who suffer from heart attacks after discharge from hospital.
I am honoured to be awarded the Helen Glass Manitoba Nurses Award from the Canadian Nurses Foundation.
