12:15 pm

WHO:
Mary Smith, executive director of the Association of Registered Nurses of Manitoba

MEMBER RESOLUTIONS

Resolution One
That the Association will work with the Aboriginal Nurses Manitoba Inc. and the Community Health Nurses of Manitoba to promote a ‘whole community approach’ to increase awareness of the impacts of the social determinants of health as it relates to health inequities. A ‘whole community approach’ will be established through intersectoral collaboration between health, education, housing, labour, justice, transportation, agriculture, and the environment.

Relevance to the Association’s mission and goals:
The Association’s mission refers to advocating for the health of people living in Manitoba.

Resolution Two
That the Association of Registered Nurses of Manitoba will collaborate with nurses of all designations (nurse practitioners, registered nurses, registered psychiatric nurses and licensed practical nurses) to participate in the International Council of Nurses and the World Health Organization’s three-year global Nursing Now campaign to raise the profile of nursing and promote pride as a nurse.

Relevance to the Association’s mission and goals:
This call for action aligns with the Association’s mission to be the professional voice and to support and promote excellence in nursing practice, education, research, leadership and policy.

Resolution Three

That the board of the Association be requested to comprehensively explore the level of interest and possibility of expanding the Association’s membership structure to include the ‘family of nursing’ (nurse practitioners, registered nurses, registered psychiatric nurses and license practical nurses) in order to promote intra-professional collaboration and strengthen the professional voice of nursing. This undertaking of evidence-gathering is to include identifying relevant costs, benefits and identify any risk to reputation and sustainability of the Association.

Relevance to the Association’s mission and goals:
The motion aligns with and is intended to support the Association’s current mission, vision, and strategic goals. As well, should the evidence collected support the decision to expand membership, there would be an opportunity for a more collective vision for nurses advancing nursing and health.
