ARNM celebrates National Nursing Week recognizing the vital role nurses play in Manitoba

The Association of Regulated Nurses of Manitoba celebrates nurses’ essential contribution to the well-being of Manitobans

For Immediate Release – May 11, 2020

Winnipeg, MB – This week, the Association of Regulated Nurses of Manitoba is proud to celebrate the dedicated work and contribution of all nurses in Manitoba and all over Canada. Nursing week is the time to acknowledge the vital work of nurses, particularly during this global pandemic where nurses have been on the front line, selflessly battling this deadly virus every day.

“Every day, nurses provide quality, critical and compassionate care to patients in Manitoba during normal times but also during times of uncertainty and fear such as the current COVID-19 crisis. Nursing week is the time to celebrate the profession and honour the women and men that are on the front-line of the fight against COVID-19,” said Mary Smith, executive director of ARNM. “Wherever you are in the Manitoba and Canada, join us this week to show our support to nurses.”

This year’s National Nursing Week theme is A Voice to Lead—Nursing the World to Health. The theme was developed by the International Council of Nurses (ICN) to highlight the pivotal role of nurses in addressing a wide range of healthcare challenges.

“The theme of Nursing Week could not have been a better choice for this year,” said Jennifer Dunsford, president of ARNM. “We have been advocating strongly for safe quality work environments in all care settings and supporting enhanced public health measures to flatten the curve and take the pressure off of the acute care system—these needs are increasingly clear to the public and not just people who work in healthcare.”

In the midst of this unprecedented crisis, nurses continue to demonstrate leadership, professionalism and commitment in all healthcare settings to help prevent the spread of the virus and care for patients. We encourage nurses and healthcare professionals to share photos and quotes on social media so we can all celebrate them for Nursing Week.
