The pandemic: A northern/remote nursing perspective
Talk Tuesday - July 14, 2020

Join us for a discussion about pandemic preparation with a Northern Flair. You’ll hear about some of the unique challenges in working with a highly vulnerable population, limited resources and vast geography and the innovative and creative problem solving that resulted.

Shannon Guerreiro
VP Clinical Services & Interprofessional Practice Chief Nursing Officer, Northern Health Region

Shannon Guerreiro has experienced many settings during her 31 years of nursing, from rehabilitation to emergency, from mental and primary health to medicine and long term care. Shannon was a front line nurse who provided care at the bedside for 17 years before taking on the challenge of informing and improving practice with progressively increasing leadership responsibilities. She went on to lead many changes in the positions of manager, director and Chief Nursing Officer, finally arriving at her current position of VP of Clinical Services, Interprofessional Practice and Chief Nursing Officer for the Northern Health Region. The North has proven to be an inspiring adventure, from weather to floods, from fires to fugitives at large. But perhaps the biggest challenge to date has been to lead her remarkable team through a pandemic.
Every step of the way has provided a once in a career opportunity to work closely with provincial nursing leaders, indigenous partners and professionals from all disciplines to navigate COVID-19.
