Psychedelics, Nursing and Public Health
Talk Tuesday - June 16, 2020

Hear from the co-founders of Project Safe Audience (PSA). PSA provides peer-based harm reduction services and training to members of the rave and festival communities to mitigate the risks associated with high-risk party activities.

With the need for social distancing and people staying home during COVID-19, PSA has received several requests for information around the self-exploration of psychedelics. The PSA team has changed its focus (for the time being) to increasing its organizational knowledge in this area.

Psychedelic medicine is experiencing a renaissance in our country. Medicines made illegal in the '80s like MDMA, psilocybin-containing mushrooms, and LSD are now being re-explored for their therapeutic benefits. From MDMA for treatment-resistant PTSD and Ibogaine for opiate use disorder, psychedelic medicine is an exciting new opportunity for nurses to better support healing in their clients.

This Tuesday Talk will explore a brief history of psychedelics, current medical and therapeutic research, the nurse's role in emerging clinical practice and research, and a proposed public health model for the regulation of these medicines.
