Drug Impaired Driving Presentation

Presented by Dr. Neil Swirsky
The content covered will be Manitoba legal reporting requirements, the MPI process for making decisions about medical fitness to drive, an overview of health conditions and driving with a particular emphasis on substance use disorder and the effects of drugs on driving performance, and upcoming changes to impaired driving legislation.

This session will be of interest to nurses because they should be aware of pending changes to the legal reporting requirements and, since multiple classes of drugs may have an effect on driver performance, nurses are in a position to inform their patients and the public at large of the potential risks. The changes to impaired driving legislation are intended to make the roadways safer for all of us and nurses have a major role to play in health promotion and safety in our communities.
